Privacy policy

This site collects as little as possible and does nothing clever with what it has. Here is the whole arrangement, in plain language.
What this site collects
- Newsletter signups. If you join the reader list, your email address goes to Kit (kit.com), the email service that manages the list. It’s used to send you the free chapter and release announcements, and for nothing else. Kit’s own privacy policy applies to its handling of your address.
- Contact form messages. If you use the contact form, your name, email address, and message are sent to the author by email so she can reply. They aren’t added to any list.
- Server logs. The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) to serve and secure the site. This site adds no analytics or advertising trackers of its own.
- Your lighting choice. If you use the lamp switch, your browser remembers "lights on" or "after dark" in its own local storage. It never leaves your device.
What this site doesn’t do
- No advertising, no ad trackers, no selling or sharing your information with anyone for marketing.
- No accounts, no profiles, no purchase processing. Books are sold by retailers (such as Amazon) under their own policies.
- No tracking cookies set by this site. The third-party services above may set technically necessary cookies of their own.
Email, and leaving
Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and it works the first time. Unsubscribing removes you from future emails; if you also want your address deleted from the list entirely, say so and it’s done.
Your rights
You can ask what information this site holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email hello@tessarenford.com and it will be handled promptly. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU or UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA), these rights are also yours by law.
Children
This site is intended for adult readers and doesn’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information here, email the address above and it will be deleted.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
